Once, I observed my game icons disappear when I "right clicked" the desktop and selected refresh. I'm running retail boxed (not OEM) 64-bit Windows 7Ħ40GB Western Digital Caviar Black hard drive I can copy them back to the desktop folder, but I then have to rearrange the icons, as they're in random positions on the desktop. I created the desktop shortcut icons by "right clicking" on the individual games from the start menu and selecting "Send to> Desktop (create shortcut)." As they've disappeared several times, I created copies of the shortcuts. I rebooted the computer, and the icons were gone. Once, the game icons stopped functioning-nothing happened after clicking on them. I tried deleting browser history, deleting e-mail messages in Windows Live Mail and emptying the recycle bin. However, I have not been able to duplicate it. The last time, it happened just after I deleted browsing history and closed Internet Explorer. I've experienced a similar problem-game icons disappeared. PLEASE HELP US - IT IS FRUSTRATING !!! Fresh Clean Install DELL XPS Windows 7 (6.1/7600) X64 Intel Core 2 Duo Quad Core Q6600 2.4 6 GB 1066 (2 X 1 X 2 X 1) 250gb C HDD / 80gb D HDD I am an IT professional - So please feel free to treat me as so. Enter the Google search phrase "icons disappearing from windows 7 desktop" and there are pages of hits of users having the same problems. It's apparent to me for whatever reason that obviously the icons are not being deleted but more-over "hidden" since I get the "already exists error." Will MS/Windows DEV teams please help us fix this. So I have to use a different name or name(2), name(3), and so on. Also, when I try to recreate the shortcut it won't allow me saying the shortcut already exists. Sometimes my icon layouts would be the same except there would be a gap/missing icon in the middle of the desktop and the desktop didn't even re-align the icons. I started noticing after log-offs and logging back on or restarts that icons would be missing. I am also having the same problem on a WIN 7 X64 system build 7600/6.1.
